Prosthodontics
What is it?
Prosthodontics is one of the dental specialties recognized by dental associations, the Ordre des dentistes du Québec and insurance funds, as are orthodontics, endodontics and other recognized dental specialties.
After five years of university training to become a dentist, a future prosthodontist receives an additional three years of intensive training in a post-graduate program accredited by the Canadian Dental Association or the American Dental Association.

The prosthodontist
A specialist dentist
A prosthodontist is a dentist who specializes in tooth restoration and replacement.
He treats patients needing replacement of one or more teeth, replacement of all the teeth in one or both jaws, or specialized cosmetic and prosthetic dental care. He will suggest the treatments that are best for you.
Your dentist will advise you to consult a specialist when your dental problems are complex or when your situation requires specialized prosthodontic care.
Why consult?
Get solutions to your dental problems
To get a solution to a specific or generalized problem caused by damaged, compromised or missing teeth. You may be offered more than one alternative: fixed, removable, implant-supported or a combination of these. A prosthodontist is a dentist who specializes in tooth replacement and restoration. As such, he or she acts as a partner to your dentist when restorative problems are complex.
An analysis of your specific situation will enable us to propose the most appropriate solutions for your dental problem. In most cases, the results of this examination are communicated to you immediately. The treatment plan is also forwarded to your referring dentist.
The valuable advice you'll receive during the evaluation will help you make a well-informed decision. Treatments involving the latest laboratory technologies or the care of other specialists will be efficiently coordinated according to a planned sequence. Our treatment team will work with you to ensure that the chosen solution is implemented in the best timely manner.
Dr. François Chartrand
D.M.D. | Dipl.Prostho | Prosthodontist
A graduate of the Université de Montréal Faculty of Dentistry in 1988, Dr. Chartrand completed a specialization in prosthodontics at the Boston's Tufts University in 1992.
Renowned for its clinical orientation, this faculty gave him the opportunity to experience the emergence of dental implantology, a field that is transforming the way missing teeth are replaced. There, he rubbed shoulders with internationally renowned ceramists, gaining expertise in aesthetic biomaterials.
On his return to Quebec, Dr. Chartrand established himself in Montreal's West End, where he quickly won the confidence of his general and specialist dental colleagues. He runs his own laboratory, which is closely integrated with the care he provides at his Pointe-Claire clinic.
For around ten years, he was involved in teaching prosthodontics as a lecturer, guest lecturer or speaker at dental societies and conferences.
Since 2001, he has devoted himself full-time to his private practice in Pointe-Claire, serving the dental community and his patients in need of specialized dental care. Passionate about prosthodontics, he continues to perfect his skills in order to offer his patients the latest developments in implantology, restoration and tooth replacement.
